I can't solve this mission

If you've forgotten what you're supposed to be doing in a mission, click on the 'Objective' button at the bottom-left of the screen; it'll give you a reminder.

If you're stuck and can't figure out what to do next, try clicking on the 'Hint' button in the bottom-right of the screen; it'll give you clear instructions on what to do. And if you're still stuck, visit the mission discussions to see if there's any solution there - and if not, to ask people for help!

I can't see everything on the screen

There are a couple of things you can do to make more space on the screen:

  • Hide the taskbar: You can hide the black taskbar along the bottom of the screen by pressing the blue down arrow at its top-left. To bring the taskbar back, just press the arrow again.
  • Hide the MSG chat drawer: You can make the chat window smaller by clicking on the « button at the top.
  • Move the MSG chat window: If the MSG chat window is in the way, you can move it by dragging the title bar (the bit where it says 'MSG Chat').

How long is a mission?

They're usually around 10-15 minutes long. If you're quick, you can do finish a mission in under 10 minutes, and if it's difficult, it could take over 20 minutes.

Do you need speakers or headphones to play?

Many of the missions in Smokescreen include voiced audio (e.g. phone calls) and music. Whenever someone is speaking in the game, we always show closed captions (subtitles) at the bottom of the screen. These are on by default, but if you have switched them off, you can display them again by pressing the black CC button in the bottom right of the screen.

Some missions also have sound effects for winning achievements and clicking on buttons. If these sound effects are important for the game or story, then they'll also be close captioned.

So, in other words - no, you don't need speakers or headphones to play!

I can't hear anything!

First, check if your speakers or headphones are on and not muted (we have to ask!). Next, check if your browser has Flash installed. If it doesn't, please install the latest version; we use Flash to play all of our game in the game.

If you still aren't hearing audio, try reloading the mission; and if that doesn't work, clear your browser cache.

What age is Smokescreen suitable for?

Smokescreen is aimed at teenagers, and is suitable for 13 year olds and above. In terms of strong language, Smokescreen is similar to a 12-rated movie in the UK or a PG-13 film in the US - in other words, there are some swear words (but no F-words).
